The Trump administration revealed on Thursday that it is conducting a review of over 55 million individuals holding U.S. visas to identify any potential violations that could result in deportation, as reported by The Associated Press.
According to the U.S. Department of State, visas permitting individuals to reside in the United States could be revoked at any time if there are „signs of overstaying, engaging in criminal activities, posing threats to public safety, participating in any form of terrorist activity, or providing support to a terrorist organization,” as noted by AP and referenced by News.ro.
In a written reply to an inquiry from the Associated Press, the Department clarified that all holders of U.S. visas are subjected to „ongoing checks” for any indicators that might suggest they do not qualify for this document.
If such evidence is discovered, the visa will be canceled, and if the visa holder is present in the United States, they will face deportation.
„We are examining all accessible information as part of our review, encompassing law enforcement or immigration records, along with any other details that come to light after the visa is granted, which might suggest potential ineligibility,” the State Department stresses.
