The holiday of U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance in the tranquil and small town of Charlbury in southwest England has greatly upset the daily lives of its 3,000 inhabitants, who are now subjected to rigorous security inspections by the American secret service and British police.
Following a meeting on August 8 with British Foreign Minister David Lammy at his home in Chevening House, southwest England, and multiple discussions with Ukrainian diplomatic representatives, Vance relocated with his family to Oxfordshire County, as reported by EFE and Agerpres on Monday.
In the Cotswolds area, the U.S. Vice President chose an exquisite 18th-century manor situated on a 2.42-hectare estate, featuring a tennis court, fitness room, and extensive Georgian-style gardens, all meticulously secured by the security detail.
As per British media reports, local residents have encountered their regular walking routes obstructed, and British police alongside special forces are scrutinizing and inspecting every vehicle approaching or traversing this quaint locality.
The Telegraph noted that the owner of the property where the Vance family is residing has expressed apologies to neighbors for the „circus that will unfold in the coming days” and conveyed hopes that the convoy of 19 vehicles accompanying J.D. Vance, his spouse Usha, and their three children would not be „excessively disruptive.”
Since Saturday, a sophisticated security apparatus has been established on the estate, including a small helipad. On Sunday, the convoy proceeded to Hampton Court Palace, the historical residence of King Henry VIII, which was closed to the public during the visit of the U.S. Vice President.
The „Stop Trump” coalition in the UK, which organizes protests against the U.S. President, has called for a peaceful demonstration on Tuesday in Charlbury, following a protest last Friday in Chevening.
„While children in Gaza are starving and under bombardment, these individuals remain behind closed doors celebrating their foreign policy. This is not diplomacy; it is a grotesque exhibition of power steeped in blood,” „Stop Trump” stated on Facebook during the meeting between Vance and Lammy.
On Wednesday, Vance is scheduled to visit the American troops stationed at the RAF base in Fayford, southern England, where personnel from the 501st Air Support Squadron and the 99th Expeditionary Reconnaissance Detachment of the U.S. Air Force are deployed.
