U.S. President Donald Trump remarked on Monday, during press comments made alongside the Ukrainian president at the White House, that a trilateral summit involving their Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, could present “a favorable opportunity” to conclude the conflict in Ukraine.
The American leader mentioned that he would communicate with the Russian president following his discussions on Monday at the White House with Volodymyr Zelensky and European officials.
“I was just telling the president (Zelensky) that I had an indirect conversation with President Putin and we will arrange a phone call immediately after today’s meetings, and we may, or may not, have a trilateral. If we don’t convene a trilateral, then the hostilities persist, but if we do, we stand a good chance – I believe if we hold a trilateral, there’s a good prospect to bring it to a close (the war), but he’s awaiting my call once we wrap up this meeting,” proclaimed Donald Trump.
Zelensky expressed willingness for trilateral talks with Trump and Putin
Adjacent to Donald Trump in the Oval Office, Volodymyr Zelensky stated he is ready for a trilateral summit with the leaders of Russia and the United States.
“We must halt this war, to stop Russia,” asserted the President of Ukraine, as cited by CNN.
He noted that Ukraine continues to need assistance from American and European allies.
“I have backed the proposition of the United States – President Trump, in particular – to cease this war, to establish a diplomatic route to resolve this conflict,” Zelensky added.
