A 48-year-old woman was stabbed four times by a man on a street in the capital on Friday around 10 AM. She shared at the hospital that none of the bystanders who witnessed her injury stepped in to assist, as reported by a hospital representative to Observatornews. Nevertheless, prosecutors from the Prosecutor’s Office associated with the Bucharest Tribunal stated in a communiqué on Saturday that a female passerby contacted emergency services at 112.
The attacker, a 28-year-old man, was apprehended on Friday, and the Prosecutor’s Office announced on Saturday that he was placed in custody for 30 days. Prosecutors noted that he is a recidivist with a record of offenses including attempted rape, sexual assault, and robbery, although there are no signs of psychiatric history.
The assault transpired while the woman was on her way to the metro for work. As per Observatornews.ro, after the assault, the assailant discarded the knife in a nearby trash bin and mingled with other commuters in the metro.
During his interrogation, the attacker confessed to not knowing the victim but failed to clarify the reason behind his assault.
Fiorella Mitoiu, a hospital representative, indicated that the victim was „extremely shocked” by the indifference of those around her.
„She was extremely shocked, mainly due to the behavior of the bystanders. She mentioned that no one intervened at all; they didn’t even pause to call 112. She had to notify the ambulance herself,” remarked Fiorella Mitoiu.
The victim was admitted to the emergency department with several stab wounds to the head and cervical region, affecting both the front and back of her torso.
In a communiqué issued on Saturday, the Prosecutor’s Office declared that „a passerby noted the victim lying on the ground, and upon hearing her cries, called emergency service 112.”
„The assault occurred after the suspect followed the victim for a few minutes on the street and struck her when there were no other individuals present nearby. The perpetrator left the scene shortly thereafter, having been seen by some witnesses as he departed,” the prosecutors further articulated, as reported by News.ro.
„On 08.08.2025, the Prosecutor’s Office commenced criminal proceedings against a 28-year-old man under investigation for attempted murder and disturbing public order and peace,” stated the Prosecutor’s Office connected to the Bucharest Tribunal on Saturday, as cited by News.ro.
According to prosecutors, on Friday, around 10 AM in Sector 3, for no discernible reason, the man suddenly stabbed a 48-year-old woman multiple times with a knife, inflicting numerous injuries in the cervical and thoracic regions.
The individual is a repeat offender with prior convictions for attempted rape, sexual assault, and robbery, as highlighted on Friday by representatives of the Prosecutor’s Office. There is no information suggesting that the attacker has psychiatric antecedents.
Initially held for 24 hours, the suspect was subsequently remanded in custody for 30 days by a judge from the Bucharest Tribunal following a request from the prosecutors.
